Vtec working?
 
I've got a 96 EX coupe and was just wondering how do I tell if Vtec is kicking? On my brother's his vtec makes a sound when it kicks but mines doesnt make that same sound... his is just 1 yr older then mines.

vtec kicks in at about 4500-5500 RPM's i cant remember witch tho...thats the only thing i know, and you should B able to feel it, so!

its hard to feel on a SOHC. if you get into an integra or something it will kick a little more.

I have heard thatit is easier to hear with an intake, but I have never heard/felt my vtec "kicking in."

same here I am still wondering... lol but my bros civic has no intake its plain stock, while mines atm has teh shortram AEM intake, but we can hear his kicking in around 4500 RPM... is there any tools or devices to tell?

Yeah, you could wire up an LED to the solenoid or the ECU to light up when it engages.

Here you go. This guy taps in to the solenoid, but if you don't mind tapping into the wiring harness, an ECU tap would be a lot cleaner. I belive it's the green/yellow? Here's a pic.

like half a year ago a bunch of people were talking about how itd be sweet to have something hooked up to your vtec solenoid and your speaker system so when you're revving really high and hit vtec a computerized voice said 'vtec engaged'. i always thought thatd be cool but itd get annoying after a while.
