water leak after putting head back on

torqued the head down yesterday 89 civic d15b2(engine hasnt run yet)
water driping down the side of the block where timing belt goes
either water pump intake manifold or a problem with the head

was wet under the intake manifold today its dry but still driping down the side so i think its the water pump but what would cause the water pump to leak after having the head off/cleaning

Was the head mating surface and deck of the block warped at all? Is the head gasket seated properly? Is there play in the shaft of the water pump? Are all hoses connected properly? Those are the questions I would ask myself

now that i think about it whats dripping is clear(just filled the rad with water still need to flush) whats in the block is old green coolant so its on the inlet side of the system so probably the pump

started the engine today
no vacuum so its the intake manifold gasket

changed intake manifold gasket
runs smooth now
but still leaks now only when running
did a short loop around town pulled back in my garage and was dripping
after about 6 minutes stopped dripping
was down about 700 ml

cant see the leak but dripping from timing cover and oil pan area

drips most right after stopping the engine hot

Buy a cooling system pressure tester. Check the cap and see what psi it should hold, usually like 1.1 bars so pump up like 15 psi in to the system a d see where it leaks, the pressure will force it out wherever it's coming from.

went out for a longer drive and lost the same amount as i did on the short drive

changed the water pump didn't leak at all running in the garage

short country road drive tonight

pupped the hood something was glowing red under exhaust manifold heat shield

lots of water leaking
pretty sure its the head now
going to try retorque if that dosent fix it ill have to put my winter car on the road so i can take the engine apart

norcoshore 06-03-2011 06:17 AM

retorque fixed the leak

other thing is hesitating throttle
car dosent move for a few seconds then the rps go way up

thought it was the choke staying closed but taped it open didnt work

once i get moving everythings good

no power brakes when this is happening so im going to try the throttle body gasket
