Default What’s the advantage

I’m new to this. I bought a 1993 civic dx coupe with a D15B7 engine, and a PM3-4 head. It seems quick but I’ve not taken it to the track. It looks like a new distributed with a harness adapter of some sort. Is that combo an upgrade to the original engine? How do I tell if it has a chip? Thanks for the help.
