Red face my honda civic 1998EX is taking too much gas :(

I have a 1998 honda civic EX 4doors, it was imported from Japan, I bought it almost 2years ago. Mostly everything is stock, the only things I’ve changed when I got it were the tires(coz it has snow tires need to change them obviously as I am living in a desert), new set of spark plugs installed, installed new battery and 1 fuel injector we replaced coz the mechanic says it’s not working. The odometer now reads somewhere to 15,700miles. Quite low for her age now, I know . My problem is I think the car is drinking too much gas, my full tank is only getting somewhere to 200miles. Please help. I am mostly low distance driving and running only at 60mph. I am not aggressive driver as I don’t need to, coz I need to drive like 20-25miles only every day. I am a total newbie when it comes to cars so please help me, what are the things to check? And can anyone guide me where I can download a manual for my car for me to read and study even just the basic maintenance routines. Thanks.

That's EXTREMELY low miles if they are original, and JDM spec too. Nice buy.

You might try some basic maintenance stuff. Fuel filter, injector cleaner, air filter. You will NEED to change the timing belt if that mileage is correct. Even though the mileage is low, the belt is old. If it breaks, that engine is dead.

I can tell you where to find a manual for the USDM Civic, but there will be a few differences between it and your Civic.

Thank you, I will do the above and post the outputs. I've already tossed a can of fuel injector cleaner it's 3M brand coz I cant find the Lucas brand which I've read somewhere here.

Ok, after having done all the above procedures and driving a couple of miles I cant see any improvements on my mpg
The fuel gauge needle is at pass middle and I've run like 135, I dont think it will reach 300 before I fill it in again

Any other tips please?

Starting where you are starting and with limited knowledge, if you have the money I would suggest getting a mechanic you trust to do a thorough analysis of the car and find whats wrong, but thats just me. My 2nd car i spent way too much money trying to fix one thing after another until i finally had to just have a mechanic go through and fix it (but it was electrical issues), but hey i could be wrong.

Default Tips were great

Thanks for the posts. They have helped me too. I have to get my car inspected. Having the same fuel economy change recently. Also the gas gauge floats. I don't ever smell gas so no leak. Undetermined reason for this failure in mpg.
