Should O2 Sensor Be Changed Just for Age....
 

My 2001 Civic EX runs good, and hwy MPG is around 37-40 depending on weather conditions and A/C use. Mileage is 382,000. Exhaust system is original, as are O2 sensors. Since 90 % of my driving has been at 60-70mph for the life of the car, I attribute that to the longevity of the O2 sensors and many other parts on the car. I'm an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kinda guy for items not specified as periodic replacement. But , in the absence of a CE light or other trouble indicator, should the O2 sensors be changed just as a PM item at some point ?

technically yes you should replace the O2 sensor since there only recommended for around 60,000-90,000 miles regardless if its throws a cell light. but remember to only use either NTK or DENSO brand if replacing.

I have the D17A2 engine, and it conforms to ALL Emission standards including CA. I find that the Honda P/N for the Upstream Sensor is 36531-PLR-AO1 and the Denso P/N is 234-4122. But AMAZON.com says this Denso part isn't right for my car. I think AMAZON is thinking LX or some other engine and is wrong about this.

Can someone confirm ?

don't buy from amazon go to a local parts store these sensors are extremely sensitive and can easily be damaged if not handled correctly. then what if its defective you have to deal with customer service then ship it back then wait for the new part when you could just drive back to the store.

I always purchase the O2 sensor from the Honda dealership. For a few bucks more or whatever the cost, its not worth the agony and pain purchasing off brand items. Just spend the extra money. Its well worth it.

Im considering changing the 02 sensor on my wifes 07 civic.

What tool you use to remove it?

a wrench or if you want to feel like a professional a oxygen sensor socket
