What your Average MPG?

Yes I have actually, my spark plug wires recently melted inside the spark plug sleeves in the head, so I was forced to do a complete tune up. Although my transmission is having some issues so that could be attributing to the gas mileage.

I've been averaging 11 mpg in my 06 Honda Civic, and I need to drastically improve this number! I used to average in the mid-20s, so it's a rough adjustment. I live in the city, so I know that the stop and go traffic and averaging 25 mph isn't helping, but does anyone have any suggestions for me?

My civic's average MPG is 34.4. You can see my fuel up history by clicking on the link in my signature. I just started keeping track, and have been teaching myself to drive with MPG in mind!
I almost never use the highway. I live in a suburb and everything is in town. When in stop and go traffic, there are a few things that may help:
- Avoid idling. If you get to a light that you know will be long, turn off your engine. As soon as you see the light is about to turn green for you, turn the engine back on.
- When in stop and go traffic, and the car in front of you moves up a little, do not press the gas pedal. Just take your foot off the brake and it will slowly roll forward.
- If you see a stop sign coming up, or a yellow/red light, stop accelerating! Just coast until it is time to brake.
This tip has been helpful for me: The last thing you do before you start driving should be turning on the engine. I used to get in my car and start the engine, then put on my sunglasses, plug in my iPod, pick out a song, make any last minute texts, roll down my windows... Meanwhile your car is idling and wasting gas! Don't start the car until you're ready to go. Also, as soon as you park, turn the car off.

'08 Civic EX 4-Door Automatic Milage
After the fuel did an automatic shut-off, I was always able to add one gallon to the tank, slowly. Usually filled up at a no-brand station near the house. Reset trip meter all of the time. Throughout 4 years of ownership, this Civic driven by my wife, would get 38 one time, and 32 the next. My wife has never put gas in a car and never plans to do so. My cue was, "Honey, I have only 3 dots", which meant, "make a run for gas".
