05 Civic whining noise
Our 05 Civic has a whine that comes from the engine that is rpm dependent. I'm wondering if all the 05's have a certain amount of whine. I figure I'd ask here before taking the car to the dealer and waste my time to have them tell me it's normal. It's just that it seems a bit annoying if I don't have the stereo on while driving.

RE: 05 Civic whining noise
What kind of whine? Is it constant? Does it pulse? Does it get louder or faster or both when the rpm increases? Is it a whine or a scrape?
When were your belts replaced last? |
RE: 05 Civic whining noise
It's a whine that increases in pitch as speed increases. Its constant, no pulse no scrape. The belts are original. It has just barely over 10K miles.

If it it stock then I can say that I kinda thought the same thing when I first got mine. This would happen at higher rpms when i was getting on it usually in first gear. After I installed my intake and opened things up a little the whine was gone especially at higher rpms when the Vtec kicks in. Intake made a lot of difference.

RE: 05 Civic whining noise
It seems to whine at anything over 1500 rpms and in any gear (mine's an automatic). I'm wondering if it could be the alternator or power steering pump? Or maybe it's a normal thing? Just seems strange to me.

Yea that doesnt sound right. Id take it in and have it checked out, that would be annoying. Youve got nothing to lose . Ive just reached 30K and other than the window falling off the track mine has run good. I dont know why Honda cant fix this window thing it happened on my 99 hx too. keep us posted!

RE: 05 Civic whining noise
I don't know if I'm going to take it in anytime soon. I'd have to take time off from work to do that. I'll going to try to see where the noise is coming from when I get a chance. I figure that if it runs good otherwise, I'm not going to worry that much about it.
