1997 Civic motor swap questions
 

Hello im new to the forum world, but i had some questions about a project im about to start with some friends.

First off im swapping my blown 1.6L out of my 97 civic ex, and i would like to drop a b16a into it. I want to build the motor and possibly turbo it.

I want it to be fast hopefully pushin 300 hp
im looking at spending around 3500$ to 4500$
what kind of pistons, cams, sleeves, ect should i upgrade too

And any other usefull info would be much appretiated

you're gonna be running a little tight with that budget, if it includes the turbo. The b16 is a somewhat high-compression engine and if you want to turbo it *reliably* then you'll need new pistons and rods. Thats a grand alone. The engine and tranny will run another 1500 plus mounts for a few hundred. Thats about 3k. The turbo, manifold, hondata, new exhaust and tune will cost you more than the 1500 you have left after that stuff.

But, thats not to say it can't be done.

Also, you might think about doing a b18a or b18b swap. They're alot cheaper and have lower compression. You can run them on low boost with a nice t3/t4 pretty reliably. But the biggest thing that would save you money is that the b18a/b's are only about $500 for the entire swap. Its not vtec, so you won't see the same numbers with the same parts, but it'll be alot cheaper. Just something to think about.

I think 350 whp is possible on a stock B16, but you need some nice tuning done. Look up other people's builds and see where they ended up.

nice! i am kinda figuring out how the whole forum thing works and looking at other builds, I dont know if im going to turbo it or not just idea right now. My friends and I are just looking for something challenging, fun, time consuming and we wanna build a badass machine. the more replies the better

If you're gonna stick with a vtec engine and have the cash for it, go for a b18c or a gsr engine. The extra displacement will give you more torque than the b16

I have an hold civic hatch back si and I put the new k20z3 all motor engine in and it smokes em .. Alot to think about keep us posted sounds like ull be fine though

Okay so I have access to my buddys old k20a it needs a ecu and trans, is that possible to put in my 97civic ex coupe? It would change from a 5spd to a 6spd any thoughts? Also on a difficulty scale 1 to 10 , 10 being hardest ?
