B16 Swap
sooooo, the other day my 98 civic LX decided to have a rod knock. and i was planning on getting an engine swap NEXT summer, when i had enough money to get what i wanted (Fully built B18C1). but instead i decided to just replace it now with a 2000 Honda civic Si motor. the car originally had a full exhaust (Megan Racing headers and mid-pipe, and an Apexi cat back) and a cold air intake (ebay). so im just trying to ballpark how much power ill be making if anyone could help me out with that? and also suggestions as to whether i should build the motor first, or turbo it on 7-8 psi?

Anywhoo, with a small turbo running 7-8psi, you don't usually need an engine build. The thing is, psi is relative; 10psi through a Mitsubishi 14B is a lot less air flow than 10 psi through a Garrett GT3076rs.
Realistically, you're probably looking at ~140-145whp with the B16, but remember that your current D-series header won't fit the B-series swap. The intake and cat-back will both fit, but generally parts from one engine series won't fit another.
But if you have the money for an engine build, it's never a bad idea.

EDIT To the OP: Were you asking about how much hp with a B16 stock, B16 turbo, or your stock D with a turbo? And what I would do is boost the motor on 8 psi and then save up money until you can afford to build it, because all the turbo parts that you need to push 8 psi you're gonna need to push, say, 15-20 psi once you've built the engine.

160BHP. That's horsepower measured at the crankshaft. You lose 10-15% of your power by the time it reaches the ground (lost through the drivetrain), and as you already know I/H/E is good for 5-10hp at the wheels, +/- depending on the design (I've heard 15hp from equal-length race headers like the kind Bisimoto offers).
And I think he was talking about what he'd be at with the bolt-on B16. OP, if you were talking about the built/boosted B16, please clarify.
Also, I forgot to mention earlier (sorry, I was a little hung over =P ), but a stock B16 bottom end is good for something like 350whp before you really need a engine build. I'd just like to point out that 350whp is past the traction threshold for a lightweight FWD car; personally, I wouldn't want a 2,400lb FWD car making much over 250-275whp if I were driving it on a regular basis. Past that, you'll most likely be fighting for traction even on dry roads. So basically with a reasonably turbo setup you probably won't need an engine build. Just make sure you get it tuned by a reputable tuner

Thank you both for your input. I was in fact talking about building and throwin a turbo on the B16. but like you said about the traction, i didnt want more than 300hp anyways, so if i can safely boost my stock internals to 250-300, then i wont build the motor. so with the I/H/E, i'd probably be making 170hp (to the crank)??? and i hope your previous night was a blast

Yeah, probably somewhere around 170 at the crank. The B16 is definitely capable of 250-300whp with the stock bottom end, just make sure you have the car tuned by someone who knows who he's doing (that's the big thing).
Keep in mind that the turbo manifold will replace the exhaust manifold, so if you plan on turbocharging the car, a new header is kind of a waste of money. The intake will be replaced, too, but if you already have one from your engine, you might as well throw it on the new engine until it's boosted.
