2006 Civic Gas Millage Problems ?

Hey guys i searched alot before posting here. If it was posted elsewhere than the search didnt find it, but i would appreciate it if you can give me the link.

Anyways i have a question. My girl currently owns a 2006 Civic Sedan and ever since shes had the car shes been getting horrible Gas millage.

(automatic) She has 2500 Miles on the car and shes had it for 7 months, she only uses it to drive to work and back and also to school, Round trip would be between 15-20 miles a day. Sometimes less depends if she doesnt have school that day. Anyways she uses her A/C only during the day on her way to work, which its a 5mile trip, then when she gets out of her job she doesnt use it. She drives equivalent or abit better than Older people, between 35-45mph. All of her millage is City millage, And shes getting between 225-235 miles on a full tank.

Is this normal ? cause when i calculated it at 235miles on a 13.2 Size Tank shes making 17.8MPG. shes not even close to whats advertise which is 30/40.

Now we have taken it to the Honda dealer and they made a test on it which i cant remember the name of it, but supposevly it increased from 72% to 97%.. i tested it out 2 times after that and it was still making the same amount of MPG...

Anybody that can help me please.

since its a brand new car i can only think of a couple of things.....

one is that maybe the ebrake is sticking/you girlfriend doesn't put the ebrake all the way down. ( no offense but sometimes it happens without you knowing it )

does she put the car in overdrive? does she put the car in D while driving or like L or 2?

did you do any after market adjustments to it????

The car is still breaking in. After 5 it should be normal. BUT, you are city driving. Those are average figures. Stop and go does a big number on gas.

Ive checked all of that just incase, she tells me she always puts it in D, not D3 or lower, also the e-brake she never uses, but i checked for that too and its completly down..., no aftermarket adjustments either...

my scion tc has a 14.5 gallon, and is estimated to do 22/29, i have heavy modifications to it, including 19inch wheels and 50 pound box for subs, and im getting 280-300 on a full tank , thats exactly 1.3gallon bigger than the civic honda, and im still getting better milage..

ok, next and last thing i was thinking of, please do not be offended.....

some people are known to have a heavy foot. they accelerate like crazy. that would take up 33% more fuel according to the EPA. maybe its your girlfriends driving style.

other than that you should get it checked again. my 2006 civic si should be getting worse mileage than you, but 17.8 is low for a compact car.
