2010 Honda Civic LX: location of air bags?
Hi;
I just bought a 2010 Honda Civic LX.
I ordered some seat covers and someone on the internet told me not to trust my salesman who said that seat covers should be safe, that the side airbags are not located in the seat.
That is mostly good enough for me, but I figure it can't hurt to ask.
Is this right? Are air bags NOT located inside the front seats and are seat covers over the seats safe?

I called customer service at Honda. The representative couldn't tell me if the 2010 Civic LX had airbags in the seat. He had to look it up in the owners manual ( which I did last night ). The 2010 Civic LX does.
He didn't sound sure if a seat cover was a safety issue or not.
I called Honda back a second time and the second customer service person told me that Honda doesn't recommend seat covers and will not manufacture them because of that.
My salesman told me he didn't think they would be a problem.
Some seat cover manufacturers have youtube videos of the airbags exploding through their seat covers. Other, more expensive seat cover manufacturers put holes in the covers about where the air bags are.
I have the impression that nobody knows for sure if seat covers are a safety problem or not.
Maybe I will look for something that just goes on the part of the seat where I park my bottom or maybe I will establish a routine for cleaning the seats with some sort of upholstery cleaner.

I have a 08 Lx civic, i know for a fact that there are air bags in the side of the seats.
But putting seat covers is one thing i would not do.
I would belive that seat covers would hold back the air bags, and thats something you have to decide on, is your life worth it.
