Default 94 civic engine

I have a 94 Honda civic si after a little bit of research i found out i have the D1 6Z6 engine. SOHC vtec. I Feel cheated though. Did they not yet have the DOHC vtec at that point? I though i read once that you could convert the heads and change the SOHC into the DOHC has anyone heard anything like that before. Also at 125hp compared to most of the others on that list in the 180s and 200ds. does this engine even have potential?
thanks, any input would be appreciated.

They had the B16's and B18's etc at that year.

You cannot throw a DOHC head onto a SOHC block. Motor swap time if you want DOHC. Research what is and what is not compatible, or a parts list for the swap would work, too.

SOHC have potential only if you boost them IMO.
