K so here's what it is. My friend's wife said the following:
"The inscription is counting
The machinist would put a dash every time he inspected something, performed some task,
or to let others know how many times something was done
Its similar to how we make roman numerals or when we make IIII
then put a diagonal dash through it to make 5
each dash he put in represented something
the total of the dashes equals 11"
It must be important to inscribe it into the head like that whatever it is that they did. Maybe its a logo for the Japanese machine shop. I read that Honda actually lost money with each ITR motor they made. The used private shops in Japan to build the motor. So maybe the markings are specific to a particular shop in Japan.
Does anyone on here have a JDM motor? I am curious, go look on the exhaust side of the head above the #1 or #4 cylinder and see if there is an inscription.

You got me curious. I know it doesn't help but I just went and looked at my B16A2 and it has those three little boxes, above the #1 cylinder, and the first one has what looks like a P in it, the second two are blank. Strange, now I am really curious as to what they are... I'm tuning into this thread!

Interesting so the US spec motors have standard english characters. You should post a pic on here, I am curious to see. I am interested in what they were counting, and what the "P" is for Does the B16A2 have a PR3 stamped head?
