Blow Off Valve

So what's the deal with the blow off valve? I like the way it sounds. But do i have to have turbo for a blow off valve or can i install one on a stock engine? what kind should i get. And where exactly does it need to be placed on the engine? not sure if i'm gonna get one til i know more about them. any info would help. 97' Civic. 5-speed manual, SOHC, V-tec

A blow-off valve releases excessive boost pressure from the turbo in order to protect the engine. With no turbo, there is no boost pressure. So you have to have a turbo to have one.

^that

plus it would be stupid to have one without a turbo even if it were possible. Talk about being a poser...
