booya! 97 five speed hatch, aka: my new baby

I'm so geeked right now. I just bought a 97 DX Hatch for $800. No brakes, but running lines is at least a known PITA. I sold this exact car except an auto two years ago looking way prettier for 4K. I've regretted it ever since.

Current condition: 115K, both bumpers hangin' kinda funny, FR quarter panel is dented, RL fender rust, light underbody rust, no brakes. Engine humming like a Honda and shifting tight as... ...well lets just say it feels real nice ;)

 This is gonna be fun.

Post pics! I just picked up a 92 VX hatch for $800, however, it does have brakes though. That and a huge can of bondo slapped all around it. lol

I'm towing it home tomorrow and should be able to get pics up soon.

ouch about the bondo.. hope you're going to treat it right!

Congrats! It's strange that there's no brakes/lines though. Pics please!

I think the 'no brakes' thing can most likely be traced to a puddle of brake fluid underneath the lines about midway down the car. Apparently the brakes would have kinda worked for a bit if I had refilled the master cylinder. I'm too old for that sht though.. $50 for a rental to tow it home and call me Mr. Safety :D

here are some pics. last one is my favorite. looks like someone dropped an m80 in their coffee mug. I'll be using the headliner and visor refurbishing diy's

No crazy rust, the underbody looks like it has factory rust protection. I'll probably just treat the fenders for now, but I'm friends with a certified tig welder so I have options. It had a run in with a garage door frame on the passenger side and a branch took out the driver's front quarter.

Good call on towing it home. That hatchie looks just like mine, minus the rust and odd headliner stain. Buying braided brake lines may make running the brake lines a bit easier. Probably more expensive though.

boomzilla 06-19-2011 01:12 PM

funny enough, I already have braided lines sitting in the garage. My LAST ek hatchback's brakes started to feel really soggy one month a few years ago so I ordered a nice set, but then figured out the master cylinder was the culprit before they arrived.

Holy $#!+, did someone or thing vomit on the ceiling of that hatch......

But a steel for $800.00.

Good luck with her.
