90% probability of needing a new thermostat. Maybe a new water pump. How many miles?

What is the temp where you live?
What is your coolant mixture percentage?
Are you banging the AC full blast?
Driving in stop and go traffic nonstop?
Need a bit more info please.

I've noticed that my temp guage kinda jumps every once and a while but I think it is related to a loose belt.

first step is check for coolant leaks. second is replace the themostat. if it still overheats check to see if it overheats when the ac is on. check to see if you fan is running. if you fan doesn't run at all most likely that is your problem. if your fan works when ac is on but when you have it off and it is running hot and the fan doesn't come on something is wrong with your fan circuit. too many variables. if you would like help figuring it out contack me somehow.

I dont think he means it is over heating, just heating up quicker

I just bought an '01 Si and I have the same trouble. If I take it through Timmy's drive through all of a sudden the temperature starts going really high and I have to turn the heat on and then it doesn't cool down again for hours. It doesn't overheat, the temperature just gets really high.

If I just drive, and don't drive slowly, stop-and-go, or idle, then it's fine.

I replaced the rad, coolant fan, and thermostat but still have the same problem. My mechanic is mystefied.
