Canadian 1997 Civic EX HP?

Hello all,

I've searched a lot of forums and the web for the stock engine spec on my Civic, but couldn't find any. Do you guys know what's the spec for this civic. The US EX model is about 127 HP. I don't think mine is 127 HP cause it's too slow. It's in the garage right now for clutch replacement. And I'm also thinking, what could be a good engine to swap easily that requires less work to get more power that has around 160 HP? Thanks a lot.

I'm not positive if this is right considering that I don't study canadian models of cars. I believe that in canada the Civic SiR has the 160hp b16a2 engine, the Si has the 127 hp d16y8 (EX in us language), so just out of a guess your engine would be the d15y7 with 106hp (the LX model in US cars).

I'm not positive if this is right, but it is my best guess, so somebody correct me if im wrong.

If you want a swap with 160 hp and isnt a lot of work go with a b16a2. The USDM versions have 160hp, the JDM versions put out 170hp, and both are a very easy fit. You can find engines with everything (engine, ecu, intake manifold, transmission...etc) for around $2,000 without shipping. If you are good with your tools though you could look into doing a B18b-Frankenstien conversion with a b18c1 head which would gain you a lot more TQ plus more Hp, but that is much more work to install and get working.

I have a Canadian Ex and it's the same as the USDM. It would help if you could get a look at your engine code.

Yeah, go with what sniper said. When you find the engine code it is quite easy, just google the engine code then type "hp" after that and you will get the answer within seconds. If you are using a d16y8 though like sniper said then you are putting out 127hp (at the flywheel).

i was always under the impression that there was no EX coupe in canada, cause the SI in Canada is actually the EX in the states and that the EX sedan had the D16Y8, cause the only time i have EVER seen a EX coupe ithad american plates on it... but i have seen Sedan SI's for the 2001-2005 civic... that is right sedan, and coupes, not just the hatches
