Default Rookie Civic Advice Needed

Ok, for starters, take it easy on me LOL. I drive a lifted F350 Diesel, this was the daughters 95 Civic, so I dont know much about it.

Its a 95 Civic DX 2dr. I believe its the D15B7. Has the 5spd tranny.

After initial purchase I have also spent money on:

Timing Belt/Water pump/Valvecover gaskets etc.
New hood after she ran under somebody's receiver hitch
All new AC system
CV Axles
And some other small parts

Well she called me the other night saying her car overheated. Long story short I ended up replacing;

Radiator
overflow reservoir
Cooling fan switch

After all that she was still overheating, another long story blown head gasket and once it was in the shop, also has a rod knocking.

So he told me $2100 for a new motor. I ended up just picking her up a used Toyota Paseo from a friend for $1000, and the Civic is now going to be my project. With all the new parts the car has I dont want to get rid of it.

So I'm going to bring it home and put a motor in it when I get the time and use it to drive some when i dont need my truck.

what is my best option for a motor in the car? I up for a swap if that is my best choice, or I can just throw another motor in thats like the one in there. I dont want to break the bank doing it, but I do want a dependable car with good mileage, and of course I'm always up for some performance. Thanks in advance for your help and your patience.

If you want a little power over stock and a cheap/easy swap, look for used D16Z6's on craigslist. You can usually pick them up with the transmissions for $500 or less; the stock DX transmission will also bolt straight up to the D16Z6.

As for DOHC swaps, they really depend on your budget. Most swaps will be under $4,000 all said and done, and of course, everything also depends on how much torque/horsepower you want. Name an expected budget and a power goal and we can help you a little more.

Hoesntly, it will be pretty low budget LOL. What are the advantages of the D16Z6 over the D15B7 thats in it? What all is involved in the swap as far as elcetronics, mounts, stuff like that? What would be the price of the D16Z6 compared to picking up a D15B7? Sorry for all the questions, I am VERY new to the Honda stuff,

Most of my money in my car budget goes here:

That's a nice F350.

Anyway, The Z6 has a little more power and is a vtec engine, so you'll have a bit more pick-up at higher rpm's. You'd have to have the ECU for the Z6, and I believe the only real wiring you'd have to do would be for vtec, which isn't that involved (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It'll use the same mounts as your stock engine and pretty much everything will bolt right up to it. As a general rule of thumb, I'd say change out the water pump, timing belt, plugs and wires, clutch (if it's a manual), etc while the engine is out of the car.

Thanks for the quick response. Good info, I'll look into parts and see what I can find.
