Are civic LX's worth upgrading?

I just entered the civic world by buying a 1999 LX with 150,000 miles. It runs great and seems sound. I could do some upgrades like exhaust system, brakes, suspension, etc., to make it more fun. I know it has minimal horsepower!!!! Maybe down the road I could put a V-tech engine in it. But is this the wrong car to do this with? It has a hole in the exhaust manifold, which I have to attend to first. Should I upgrade if possible with aftermarket exhaust system or do these not exist for the lowly LX? Or should I just keep it running, braze over the hole? Thanks.

its a d16y7. yeah, its worth hangin onto. any civic that has the potential for a swap is worth keeping. the weight of the 4 door isnt that much more than a coupe. for now, id go with a quality header to fix the hole issue, then an intake to give you a decent power boost and a little sound. then start modifying the suspension and brakes. then you will be a motor swap or turbo kit away from a sweet ass sleeper. its always better to have a slower car that handles and stops really well than a fast quarter mile car that cant stop or turn.
