Default Civic vs CRX?

Hello, this september i'm gonna be picking up a honda for a project. I'm shooting for a car that'll do mid 12s w/ the suspension that would allow me to do a little autox(or even rally cross) on the side.

I did some insurance quotes and its about 3$ difference per month from a 2nd gen CRX to an eg/ek coupe.

It seems like it would be obvious to go for the lighter CRX, but i've heard that because of their lightness they have big traction issues when you get over the 200hp range? Also that the suspension on the civic is a lot better.

Opinions/suggestions welcome? thanks.

well another thing to think about... a crx will often have alot more rust on it since its older than a EG and EJ EK.
and anyone knows that with a car you wanna race and abuse.. rust is very bad structurally! the EG is the middle choice since its lighter than the EJ EK alittle. but the ej and ek is newer so less chances of rust being horible.

I don't know if that'd be as much of an issue in Ca though, right?

whats your budget?
crx's are cheap
eg's and ek's will be more expensive
my crx is pretty clean not any structurally bad rust (but its still there) and it was half the price of my old eg (both less than 127k miles)

and a 200whp crx should run 12's

um, i havent really considered my budget. I have about 10k of "play money" that i've been saving for a project vehicle. I would hope that i could get that performance from a CRX/eg/ek for less then that.

eg is best way to go the obd1 is easiest to tune
you can convert the crx and the ej/ek to obd1 but thats more $$$
go for a 4dr and make a sick sleeper or a hatch

A crx with 200 hp WILL run a lot faster than 15's, I can guarantee that. I've seen it firsthand.
