Default Crush washer for oil pan

Hello all,

Im about to change my oil soon...This will be my first time doing it. Spending $80 for a synthetic oil change is getting old now...

Anywho, I saw the DIY thread and that looks relatively simple, but my only question is about the crush washer, what size washer do I need to get? And my hardware store should have one right? I just wanna get all the materials before I start...

Thanks

Go to your local parts store tell em you need a washer for oil drain plug and then theyll ask ya what car what year and all that good stuff and your good to go. I believe youll need a M14 crush washer but im not 100% on that so dont quote me

M14 sounds correct. I have never used a crush washer when doing an oil change, but my pan is stripped to all hell and needs to be replaced asap. I have to coat the drain plug in teflon tape, and honda-bond to create a seal. lol

The oil pan plug is indeed M14. The washer can usually be re-used several times. Don't overtighten it.

It's the aluminum washer on the oil drain plug bolt on the bottom of the oil pan. Aluminum is a soft metal, it deforms slightly and makes a seal like a gasket when the bolt is tightened. Sometimes hard plastic ones are used instead of aluminum on the oil drain. There are also copper ones on fuel and brake lines. It all works the same way, the washer will "crush" slightly and make a seal.

JB weld a fumoto valve in there and you will save a few bucks.

I wouldn't use any normal crush washer for the drain bolt. Just buy them from the dealer, you can buy a pack of them for like a couple bucks and they'll last you a while. You can re-use the old ones a couple times but I'd recommened replacing them atleast every 2 oil changes.
