Do VTECs leak oil when they hit vtec or just leak in general?

hi i have a b16a and when i hit vtec a few times ill come home and open up the hood and i see a little bit of oil below the distributor on the left side of the engine block. is that common for all vtec motors? or is there a problem?

hahaha yep , cam seal is that a big job? and my distributor is totally fine, do you think its a valve cover gasket? fix

probably alot but i need to get this fixed so im thinking its either a valve cover leak? and can you explain what i would have to do to get to the cam seal and to fix it?

Congrats on the new car. It should be considerably faster than your last one.

Leaking oil to the outside need not be considered normal on any engine.

There's a seal where the distributor mates to the engine. They commonly leak. On a DOHC engine, there is a blank plastic plug (the cam seal) at the end of the other cam that doesn't have the distributor. Those also are prone to leak.

To find oil leaks, clean up all the oil, then run the engine for a short time and see where it reappears first.

yeah thanks guys and mitch cmon man haha, yeah there is a black plug on the cam beside my dist, and it is maybe 1/8 of an inch wide i stuck my finger under it and i had oil on my finger, is it a easy fix?

depends on you capability. remove valve cover, unbolt the 2 bolts on the cam plug, remove plug and replace with new one. also install a new valve cover gasket.

its a common leak with them and a easy fix to me.
