door check problem
 

My 2011 Civic LX sedan has a door check (or door stop) that is in effective -- the door swings freely, and it is annoying especially when trying to get out out when the car is even on a slight incline. Is this a simple fix? I did a lot of searching on this site and in other sites; another Civic website mentioned it but there was no resolution in the thread I found.

I'm new to Honda, and have just bought this used Civic with 95,000 miles. Seems OK so far, although I'm finding the parking brake lever to bother my long leg. The previous owner must have dragged his/her feet over the sill, because the blue paint is worn down to the gray undercoat, and I'd like to get that touched up. I'm noticing things I didn't see at the dealer lot. But so far, the door check is the most annoying.
