I'm in a bit of a bind...I need a car and have little money to spend. I've had good fortune(somewhat) with Civics and love the cars...this one isn't too old, but has 170k on the odometer. My last civic(98 DX) was a warrior through 170k...had some issues up to 200k...then finally bit it at about 210k.

This car is standard and looks to be in top shape. The miles appear to be highway and the car looks immaculate. The owner is asking $4k, and I was thinking about offering $3k. Anyone think I could get three (relatively) trouble-free years out of this car?

 

You should be fine, but it really depends on how well-maintained the car was. If it was regularly serviced (oil changes, timing belt, etc) it should last quite a while; it's not uncommon for civics to last well past 200,000 miles.

 

We just picked up an 04 with 175K miles on it. Runs great, shifts smooth, even the stock suspension is still good. Would drive it across country.

You have nothing to fear as long as it has been maintained.

 

With a honda its all about maintenance. Ive seen hondas that were the most reliable sturdy cars and then ive seen some id be scared to drive down the road next to. My buddys mom has a 93 civic forget what model but it has over 350K on it and its still rollin. Shes had it maintained perfectly with oil changes, fluid changes, and taking it to dealership for routine service tune up. So aslong as you take care of it, it will take care of you.
