Default Do's & dont's for self rust proofing ?

Hi all...
After owning the same honda accord for 25 years ( 10-03-83/ 11-08-08)
I just bought A new civic EX, yesterday....

My question is .... is there a specific over the counter product , I can use
(oil / wax based) which is better than others....?

My old accord showed extensive rust perforation around the fenders, quarter panels ,and that metal beam , used for the rear bumper...

I know, 25 years is a long time, but that car wast rustproofed @ the factory.

This new civic is not....

Thanks for your advice...

Marc

You can get a undercoating type spray in an aerosol can and you could apply it yourself if you wanted.

here's an example. you could prolly find it in about any general auto parts / paint store.

if you do it yourself, careful not to seal up any weap holes in the doors or body panels. the water needs to drain out. as said before remove the salt as much as possible.

I think its worth it to have it done by a pro, before every winter get a rust proofing done and ur good to go it may cost a little more but you will get it back in resale value down the road when your car is still super clean

Thanks for all your advice....
I think I'm more worried, or concerned about the undercoating.
after inspecting the underneath, I found a lot of bare metal.

I'm glad that ,there is something that can be purchased & applied, to seal the moisture out.
On vancouver isle, I haven't seen any salt spread on the roads, yet. Winters are too mild.So I'm not too concerned about that...
