Engine codes

I'm going to look at a civic claiming to be a vti/sir (b16). Where do I find the engine code to check it's a b16 and not someone fobbing me off with a d16 or something? I've heard loads of stories about this

It's on a little flat spot on the block just to the left of the exhaust manifold.

Like this, but it'll say B16 blah blah something or other...
