Default engine mix up?

i own a 2000 civic ex i went to buy an oil filter for it(nothing out of the ordinary). then i look in the book there are 2 choices d16y7 and the y8. so i run out to my car and look on the block under the assumption that it was a y8 and to my suprise it says d16y7. WTF!!!!! i bought it from a certified honda dealer got the carfax report and the whole shebang. no accidents, the dealer says no changes. and it has a 166000 miles on it. i need help what is goin on here!

You have the D16Y8. A Y* oil filter will be fine. I dont see why there would be a need for differnce ultimatly but go with the Y8 anyway.

ooooo, d16y8s are v-tec engines. Which is like 25 or so more hp. Does it say v-tec on the valve cover? Is there a v-tec solenoid to the left of the distributor? http://b16a.honda-perf.org/Tech/vtecsolenoid.jpg it looks like that...

ORIGINAL: smokingemcee

ooooo, d16y8s are v-tec engines.
if the block says d16y7, it is not a d16y8

and those don't say VTEC on top anyway
