I blew my head gasket in my 2000 Honda Civic Exd16y8 and it cost $962.15 to put it in is this expensive or not!

the entire engine should cost less than that...depending on where you look.

They killed you on labor. If you couldve done ti yourself you would saved at least $700-$800

Thats an average price. Did they cut the head too? Or are they just hoping it seals well. If you took it to a honda dealer they will warentee it if it blows again (within 60 days I believe).Just to let you know....the gasket itself was under 100$. The rest is labor. Replacing the headgasket involves removing the entire top end of the engine, and putting it back of course. I did mine on my old D16Z6 and it took about 9 hours. But I paid for the gasket, and a case of beer. lol.

its definitely a whoooole lot cheaper to do it yourself, and a lot more fun too... but thats just my opinon

Yea I did it and had nothing other than some tools and a Haynes manual. I had the intake manifold, header and head off.......and thought to myself "WTF Am I doing?" LOL.
