Exposed metal -- how to protect it?

Exposed metal -- how to protect it?
Ok, so long story short, I locked myself and had to bend a coat hanger to get back in. It wrecked the paint around the window seal. Paint got scratched off, and bare metal is showing. I want to prevent rust from starting, SOON. Should I clear coat it, or is there something better?
Thanks

If it is just chipped then lightly sand the rough edges off the spot where it is chipped and like slow93 said, just use some touch up paint from autozone or wherever. Do two or three light coats. Use the kind in the bottle witht the pen tip and the brush. Sometimes you can get it to fill up a chipped area just by touching the pen tip the the chipped spot. Fill them all in and let it dry for about two weeks. Then wash and wax the car. If there are any spots where it is sticking up above the factory paint, just use some 3M rubbing compound(it comes in a black bottle) and it will smooth it out. You can also use rubbing compound to take out light scratches and swirl marks. Just a tip. Hope it helps, if you have any questions just PM me.

Pull what off, get back in my car? I used a screwdriver to pull apart the door seal just enough, and slipped a coat hangar in between there. After what felt like 50,000 re-bendings and re-insertions, I finally was able to life the power lock button. It was a major pain in the *** and scratched paint off, but it's nothing a little touch up won't fix. Locking keys in your car sucks!
