Default Extended Warranty

Just bought a 2006 Civic Ex with 10,200 miles. Thinking about purchasing an extended warranty.
I was told by one dealer that an 8yr/100k miles warranty can be purchased for $1,695.
Is this a worthwhile option to consider? Are these warranties negotiable? I think these can only be purchased from a Honda dealer. I prefer to have a warranty that continues on exactly like the original new car warranty.

Default RE: Extended Warranty

An extended warranty is a good thing to have. My wife has a 2001 Civic, the extended warranty ends in November, 2007.It has 130,000km/81,000miles on it and we have run across a couple glitches; ie: Suspension, Catalytic Converter, and one or two other items. We are going to get a complete check just before the warranty ends, then the car will be perfect.

Over and above the standard extended warranty, the new 2006 includes extra coverage--approx. $500CAN. It includes repair on any chips that begin to rust, or interior thatistornor wears; will be fixed for the life of the car. That warranty is transferrable as well. The only stipulation is that the car be inspected every 2 years to catch problems early--cost is included.
