Fastest Civic???
Straight to the point guys. I'm 17, getting a 'vic for my first car - what's the fastest model I can get away with on the insurance? Also what performance mods can I get away with. (UK mods plz!)
|
RE: Fastest Civic???
Maybe an Si but that would jack insurance up. A normal civic with a b16 swap should go undetected to the insurance company
|
RE: Fastest Civic???
sam im 19 and have got a marlin which is only a 1.3 but the insurance is £1800!! unfortunetly there is no such thing as civic and cheap
|
RE: Fastest Civic???
Not in the UK, at least.... around here, they're about the cheapest thing you CAN drive.
|
RE: Fastest Civic???
Yeah for real. I was driving a buick park avenue 1992 (almsot guaranteed to be least expensive to insure) and when i got the civic my insurance went up 4 bucks a month. And it is the two door.

RE: Fastest Civic???
Im 17 mate and i have 1.4i n reg 4 door civic. with air filter, lowered and alloys claimed on the insurance and my insurance is £800 a year. i have just been in a crash aswell but i have done my pass plus which halved my insurance. my Civic is pretty quick like.

(UK mods plz!) If you either a) don't like the look of the HB, or b) just like the coupe better. Try getting a 99-00 Coupe Si |
RE: Fastest Civic???
99-00 civ' ex would be ur best bet without insurance. 99-00 SI-R's are the fastes civ's stock at the moment

RE: Fastest Civic???
I'm sure you knew this already, but avoid the Type R :D I bumped into a 19-year-old driving an '02 model, paying out £4000 a year. Truly insane! But s*** happens and you're gonna get caned with insurance for a couple of years regardless of what you do. :(
|
RE: Fastest Civic???
F that, I dont buy cars and get them on a loan. I pay em off at once. I save up, and invest. If all you 19 yo out there put at least a 1000 into the bank for 10 years... you be a millionaire by early 40's

RE: Fastest Civic???
Yeah I initially looked at the Vti hatchback, but the insurance company would rape me, so it's not really a goer.
BTW yea, I'm in the UK. Dunsy - any chance you could send me a rundown of your civic spec, and what insurance company are you with. With the pass plus i take it you're on your own insurance by the way. Also, are 4 doors any cheaper to insure than the hatchbacks - if it's got a more "sporty" rep then it's usually dearer to insure. Any info would be great if you can mate! cheers, sam |
RE: Fastest Civic???
Hello dude 1st things 1st Good Choice HONDA RULE;)
Seriously now. your best Buying a 1.3 or 1.4 as your insurance will be lower than if you Jump to a VTi, also theres tax-over here you'l be in the lower tax band so tax is gonna cost you £110 for 12mnths.Then theres the initial price of the car, youll probly pick up an old ladys car going cheap in a private sale but youll need to save for that, or theres the garage option and get finance.I say 'Old ladys car' because theve never been raged about at all;) insurance will be the killer tho, On a VTi and a Type R when i was 20 it was gunna cost me £3500 and £4000, then i hit 21 and bought the type r and the insurance fell dramatically to £890!! SO start low get driving experiences and get no claims up then when you my age get a beast...Trust me it worth the wait.:D |
RE: Fastest Civic???
see said it were the uk :P lol
unfortunetly sam unless you've got a rich mummy and daddy any insurance is gonna be expensive :( |
RE: Fastest Civic???
Hey Sam, try tesco, heard they are cheap, If you are looking for a quickish car, an EG series (1992-1995) is good the model you could go for is an LSi which is a single cam 16Valve fuel injected 1.5 engine. That was my car before I managed to get hold of my VTi. There is a model in between the VTI and LSi called an ESi, this has 120BHP and is a single cam VTEC so it has the power band, which is the daddy. think the ESi falls into group 12 insurance while the VTi is group 16! As for mods just go for basics like induction kit and exhaust system. A new manifold will add lots of power. I have a full Magnaflow exhaust on my VTi and it sounds awsome. Got alot of my stuff from Tokya Express, the bloke is a Honda specialist his number is 01753651426. This is my EG VTI:http://images7.fotki.com/v122/photos...vicside-vi.jpg

|
RE: Fastest Civic???
i hate having a marlin why does it have to be a limited edition, it makes my insurence the same as an esi :(
|
RE: Fastest Civic???
I don't even HAVE a car. :|
Well...actually...I do. I got the 2002 Jetta for the next couple of days while my mum is in the hospital. |
RE: Fastest Civic???
Ooo...not thought about an ESi. Out of interest, if anyone knows how much bhp each of these push out it'd be interesting and very useful!
Civic 1.4i (EJ9) Civic 1.4i Sport Civic 1.5i VTEC Lsi CIvic 1.5i VTEC ESi Cheers, not sure if I got all the models right though! |
RE: Fastest Civic???
Hey Burgo!! i think your insurance company is taking you for a ride! £1800 for a 1.3!!
when i was 18 i had an LSI, i had no no claims bonuses and was a first time driver and insurance on that was only £1000 and that a 1.5 16v I'm now 19 and have a VTi 1.6 16v DOHC and i am paying £813!! my advise to you is shop around, try www.elephant.co.uk, they do me the best quotes!! but hey, at the end of the day your driving a civic :) |
RE: Fastest Civic???
