Auto tranny performance
Car; 93 EX coupe(D16 vtec)
Question; Does having an auto tranny affect performance greatly, because the lower gears are pretty slow, and are there tings I can do to my transmission for better performance(without swapping to a maunal)-sry if this is a repost

RE: Auto tranny performance
It depends on the car and the tranny. Typically, stock autos will absorb more power and not transmit as much power to the wheels as a manual. They also tend to be heavier.
For better performance you could do a performance rebuild with better clutches. You could also try to find a compatible limited-slip diff. You may even try different torque converters and different tranny fluids.

ahigh stall torque converter will help your launches. as far as moving, turbo, supercharger, or spray. you could build up your engine with a new set of cams, high compression pistons, edelbrok IM, and a good set of headers and exhuast and that'll help you movetoo. There isnt much you can do to a Honda automatic cuz most honda enthusiasts find it easier to swap to manual and as a result the automatic aftermarket is VERY small.

RE: Auto tranny performance
the 0-60 times are a lot slower, along with quarter miles. If you decide to drive it like a stick (going through the gears manually), you're just going to waste gas with a very small result (maybe .5s off the 0-60 time, if that). You can build up the auto transmission with better clutches and such (try http://www.jegs.com/), but you might as well just swap to a 5-speed. Honestly, from what I've seen and heard, it's not that hard for the backyard mechanic to do in a weekend (or a day, if said backyard mechanic has prior trans. swap experience). Also, just as a side note, forced induction murders auto trannies.
