Gear change in auto civic ?? how it works ??

Hi all, what determins the gear change in an automatic, sometimes well alot really it sits in 1 gear at around 2-3k revs, i know this is sucking my tank dry at a vast rate of knots, can you alter the way the gear changes are made, only asking cos i dont understand how auto tranny works....?

RE: Gear change in auto civic ?? how it works ??

Automatics change gears based on the computer programming. It usually takes into consideration throttle position, revs, etc. to determine what gear it should be in. For example, if you stomp on the gas, you obviously want to go fast so the program will drop a gear. You can't really change it (it's not worth it).

If you really want to have a little more control in the automatic, you can use the "1" or "2" position. Usually, in cars today, you have either a 3 or 4 speed automatic. This will give you a bit more control But, Next time just buy a manual.
