For those of us who have 4-5 months of cold weather coming up, I'm starting a thread for everyone to post their winter preparation tips.

I'll start. The car wash is your friend.

 

my tips are claybar and wax for the exterior
two snow and mud tires in front (we get boatloads of snow up in pa)

 

Get a nice warm garage.

 

Drive an SUV in the winter. lol no but seriously don't drive behind the salt truck.

 

Greese up your car. Especially the hinges, locks, and the key hole (i think you are suppose to use white greese). Get your battery tested (don't want that sucker dying on you.). A battery conductance test is the best, i think places like autozone do it for free.

 

Um, learn how to drive sideways... makes winter a lot more fun.

No but really... if you take lots of short trips, every now and then run your heater with the A/C and circulate on, for at least an hour. This will dry the inside of your car up. Even if you can't see snow or water, it loves to melt through the carpet then refreeze under the carpet.

 

get your car oiled (rustproofed) ..this is the second time i got mine done, and i got a can of rust check and spraied where the guys missed or couldent get to..it might be all oily under the hood and in places but in the summer you can clean it all up and it wont be rusty!!!!...i just finished all my winter prep...but i dident have a chance to wax[:@]

 

I checked the anti-freeze last weekend and we are ready to go.....I love Tennessee Winters :-)

 

I'm puttign vaseline in the wheel wells and flushing the colling system and going to the winter antifreeze mix. Also if you have to drive in heavy snow, lowering your tire pressure is a good idea. I run around 25 psi on the snow and it makes one hell of a difference to when I was at 35 psi.

 

Why's that? To keep snow from building up in there?
