GPS Opinions

Hi guys,
I've been reading reviews on GPS systems, and would like input from my fellow HCF members, those that own a GPS. Tell me what you have and why you like/hate it. Thanks!

I have a cobra gps, and i love it. Its gotten me exactly where i wanted to go. I went from chicago to texas bay area and i got there perfectly without a map. Bad thing about it is if you look at a real map, theres always a shorter faster way to get to the destination.

I just bought a TomTom, the cheapest one. I haven't taken a trip with it yet, but I've tested it around town. It seems to work pretty good.

I've owned several....and the best, in my opinion, are those made by Garmin. If you decide on a Garmin, purchase them from a COSTCO if you have one near you. They typically discount 50%-60% below retail. There are several models, depending on how many bells and whistles you want or need. I bought one for my son that not only does the basic map/get you there stuff...but also informs him of any traffic delays ahead, gives weather forecasts, provides gasoline prices in the area, and even tells him what movies are playing in the area, and at what times. You can spend anywhere from $200 to $1000, depending on what you want it to do.

Thanks guys! I want something a little more then then basic, maybe in the $400-500 range. But I don't need to go crazy with it. I hate using printed google maps while driving in LA...

I got a basic one, Magellan 3200, it was around 170.00 bucks. Its just what I need, I don't really want all the other stuff i.e. bluetooth, mp3..... that are in other higher models.

Yeah I don't want video or MP3 either. I just want it to be accurate and have some nice searching features. Perhaps I can get away with spending less then $400 for what I need. Thanks for your input guys

I was surprised how well this TOMTOM one works.

It has a search feature that tells you where tons of things are, gas stations, police, food, beaches. Or you could get the XL which is the same thing only bigger screen.

RE: GPS Opinions

I've only owned one GPS unit and that's the Garmin Nuvi 750. Does not have bluetooth and nothing really fancy but damn it has saved my ass time and time again. Since I'm in sales I wanted multi-destination routing and good "points-of-interest" database to find whatever I'm looking for and it hasn't let me down yet.

Once you have one you'll wonder how you lived without one in the past.
