There is something to be said for not having monthly car payments (good).

There is also something to be said about having 2 cars - even if you end up hardly driving the old one (also good). Its nice, b/c when I work on my Jeep I just drive the civic, and vice-versa. No big deal if it takes a little longer to get things done then.

With that said, I'd say save a little more and keep your old hatch (they are hard to find nowadays anyway and old cars have more character anyway, in my opinion) and then get that newer car when you have that extra $2500 (if you really need it to buy the si). That way you can fix your hatch when you want, but still have a reliable car to get you where you need to go. At least that what I did (well, kinda my Jeep - at 150K - and my civic - at 250K aren't exactly new but at least if one breaks I have the other).

 

lol yeah i have a 1990 lexus es250 as my backup, that i share as a backup with my dad cause he has a 2001 explorer. but yeah man i'm with you all the way on that bro. and i have a 4 door if it was a hatch i just realized it would not be for sale. lol yeah though i love old cars alooooot more, i'm still rebuilding my 1990 toyota celica aswell which is the reason why i bought the civic in january, cause my motor blew on the celly in december. so i'm planning to have the celica and the 06 si
