This problem just started today. All the other gears work fine, but when I try to shift into 3rd, it's very hard to get it in gear. I mean, I really have to push! [:@] Needless to say it doesn't make merging into highway traffic easy.

Does anybody know what causes this?

If the clutch is going (which I doubt...IE: no slipping), then why is it only third gear?

 

If I had to guess, I'd say the Synchros are shot..

 

After looking up the exact function of snynchros, I have to agree with you. I'd say just that particular one is shot. That means I either get some trans work done $$$... or I double clutch from here on. Thanks Forty.

 

Update:

The problem seems to have taken care of itself. Shifting into 3rd is getting easier every day. How strange is that?
