Default hi guys. diesel figures?

I,m new here and just recently bought a Civic 1.7 cdti, year 04. On the test drive the trip computer was reading 56 mpg, I recently filled up the tank and can only average 43mpg with just over 330 miles from a full tank of diesel. I drive very carefully changing gear at approx 2000 revs before the turbo really winds up. My journeys tend to be less then 5 miles only going to work and back. What happened to the manufactures estimates of 56mpg? I,m a UK member so not sure if i,m on the wrong forums.

I am not too sure about the civic diesels, but I wish I had one. I do know alot about big pickup trucks with diesels though. Probably the reason yo uare not seeing the 56 mpg, is that is more than likely a highway figure. Also remember that it will be at the best conditions. With 5 mile drives in stop and go traffic, it is going to be lower. Still though, 43 is not too shabby. You might want to try and do a free flowing intake and exhaust and let it breath a little better. That will probably help it. Also, I know for the trucks and the VW TDI, there are chips that you can get. Might want to see what you can find. I know I can get a ecconomy tune for my truck that will give me a few more MPG. And that is in a 8700 lb truck.
