Question HID? Problems?

This summer I want to upgrade to HID bulbs but I want to hear peoples' experience before I do. I would get projector housings and then the HID bulbs with ballasts. Has anyone had anything go wrong when they've installed these? Specifically have they been too hot and melted anything?

Nope, no problems here. Running 35w 5000k Bi-xenons from DDMtuning.com. Used them in OEM and aftermarket OEM style (from eBay) headlights with no problems.

Has anyone had any melting problems though? I called a local honda dealer and the guy there told me that it was a bad idea.

I have some 10000K on my car and they seem to be fine. No melting I can see.

just stick with the 4000k to 6000k range and dont worry about it, expecially if you are putting it in projectors...

What projectors are you looking at? are you talking like a aftermarket set of headlights or retrofitting projectors into your current housing?

I have ran 10000K HID's in my stock housings and aftermarket housings and never had a problem with them melting. I have read and been told that HID's run cooler than stock bulbs.

only reason i said to keep it between 4000k and 6000k is that any higher or lower and you are actually loosing light output, so for visibility's sake, you need to stay in that range.

I'm planning on getting some aftermarket projectors and probably adding some more silicon or something to seal them better. Do you have any recommendations on brand? I've heard people getting screwed with product quality when they but projector lights. Any advice would be much appreciated. And yeah I'm going with 6k when I do it this summer. I'm just trying to get the knowledge i need together.

I bought mine off of ebay for cheap, but they dont fit exactly right (i have pics in my build thread to see how bad) one side fits ok, but the other is pushed in a bit far and theres not really a way to move it.

The reason i asked... most aftermarket projector housings are designed for halogen bulbs, so you will end up with "hot spots" or uneven light distrobution if you just drop in any HID kit. I would suggest this...

Morimoto Stage II HID Kit: AMP - HID Component Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc

although, really the best option is to retrofit a quality projector (from that store) into a housing and use a kit from there for the HIDs. For more info, check out this forum...
