hood gas struts?

so has anyone put some hood struts on their civic? I am thinking about doing it, but I dont want to pay a bunch of money on Ebay just to get a set... so is there a home-made version? or can you get some small gas struts from shucks and mount those up?? anyway, just putting it out there...:eek:
