how much hoarse power will a good catback muffler free up?
i dont understand what you are trying to say, u mean a muffler??? or a full catback exhaust system that means everything from the cat. converter..... u wont get any horsepower from a muffler and from a full exhaust system im say no more than 5-7 depending on motor and thats being modest
idk stock mufflers are pretty restrictive so if you get a better muffler its supposed to free up hp, idk im getting my info from a guy who rebuilds classic cameros so maybe its alot different on v8's and i am just talking about the muffler not the full system
annnnnnnnnnnnd the tally is in, annnnnnd muffler = useless haha
i guess it is different for v8's
but hey do i even need to worry about exhaust if my pipe is already 2.5'?? i think thats fine for minor upgrades for now right. anything more would just be a waist of money?

2.5" is definitely big enough to not mess with. If you just want a better sound and a nicer looking tip, go out and buy a new muffler. But as said before, it won't do anything for your HP. Just don't cheap out on the muffler. You will hate the sound. Especially loud mufflers - they get really annoying after a while.
You din't have a muffler right now? Well technically it won't "free up" more power, but it'll sound better and maybe you'll get a little backpressure because i bet you lost alot of low end with those straight pipes from the cat back (if thats what you hvae?).
Unless you free up the flow throughout the whole intake and exhaust, you won't see much improvement. You'll want an intake with a good filter, a header, a flow-thru cat, and a flow-thru muffler. Even so, you won't usually see more than a 5-10% increase in power from just these mods. They'll allow more flow for better %age increases with other engine mods though.
