I just bought a stock '99 EX...now what?

I just bought a very well maintained and completely stock '99 EX w/56k miles from my parent. My father changed the oil religiously at 3k, but did not use synthetic oil. Should I convert over to one of the synthetics? If so, which one and what oil filter? Is there any special process that needs to be followed to get the conventual oil out before adding the syn?

Also, unfortunitly this EX is baby blue and looks like a girlie car. What suggestions do you all have for mods (within resonable costs)?

auto or 5speed?

I would stay with the conventional oil, especially if your going to continue to change the oild every 3k miles. Any auto parts store should be able to tell you what filter will fit your Honda. Post pictures and people here will give you all kinds of ideas about modifications.

I prefer synthetic. I would recommend Mobil1 oil with a Purolator Gold filter.

use amsoil and amsoil filter

Amsoil is overkill for a stock Y8... Expensive and unnecessary IMO... You can use synthetic, I do, and the motor seems to like it. No you don't have to do anything special to get the old oil out. The synthetic oil will clean it up for you.

Your thinking synthetic because your going to drive it a little harder then your Dad I'm assuming. If it's an automatic then you'll look like an idiot trying to race it.

As for Mods:
The best advise I could give would be to read. And then read and read. These forums and the net are full of ideas and projects you can do. Read for a couple days, ask Google your questions. Use the search feature on these forums to get ideas.

What are your goals, and what do you have to spend. You answer these two questions, then keep reading. You'll stumble on 10,000 different posts on 20 different forum sites from people that asked your exact question, and got 3425982375 different answers.

Sorry for sounding rude. I'm not hating. Research is good, everyone should do some form of it at some point in their life;)

Auto - My Mom droved it, so it really is an old lady's car.

There you go. You want to have a little more fun with it? Convert it to a manual. Get acquainted with that motor :)
