I am currently looking at a Civic that is for sale. It is a 1994 Hatch w/ 1.5 non-Vtec. It had wheels on it and it has been lowered. It is a 5-speed with 202k miles. It needs painted, but the inside is actually nice ( stock, but nice ). He wants $800 obo. Can you tell me anything about these cars? What would you suggest? What would you pay for it?

200k is alot of miles, i would ask about the timing belt and ifthey maintined oil changes etc.

 

So, I should just replace the timing belt? What do you think about a 1.5 Liter? Id like to just work on that engine and not have to swap it. What do you think? I just want to park the car in my garage to work on it and get it out like once a month to take it to the strip? Rebuild, intake, header, exhaust, what else?

 

Do you have some pictures of it? Also +1 on the asking about the oil changes. Take a look around the engine and make sure that you dont see any fluids pouring out of it or anything. Then just take it to a mechanic and ask them to do a once over. It might cost you a few bucks, but I have found it worth it. They can see things that you can't. Good luck.

You're going to have to swap or turbo (or sc i guess) if you want anything faster than a grocery getter.

 

Its just as reliable as any other Honda motor, and gets good mpg, if thats what you're wondering. It's also moddable, but I'm not sure that I would spend a whole lot of money trying to make a motor with that many miles faster. For 800 bones, even a shell is worth buying, at least this car has all the wiring AND a running motor. I'd drive it till it dies, save money, and swap in a built d-series with booost
