the "HX" just let's the consumer know the trim level, such as DX, LX, EX, and Si. HX means that it's a coupe, with a D16Y5 engine, and has like am/fm and pwr win and dl i think (anyone fill free to correct me if i'm wrong). and imo, any civic is good to play around with. but a HXis certainly better than theDX that i have.

D16Y5 [ul][*]VTEC-E[*]Found in: [ul][*]1996-2000 Honda Civic HX [ul][*]Displacement: 1590 cm3[*]Bore and Stroke: 75 mm X 90 mm[*]Compression: 9.4:1[*]Power: 115 hp@ 6200 rpm & 104 ft·lbf @ 5400 rpm[*]Valvetrain: SOHC VTEC-E[*]Fuel Control: OBD-2 MPFI[*]Head Code: P2J[/ul] [/ul] [/ul]SOHC VTEC-EHonda's next version of VTEC, VTEC-E, was used in a slightly different way; instead of optimising performance at high RPM, it was used to increase efficiency at low RPM. At low RPM, one of the two intake valves is only allowed to open a very small amount, increasing the fuel/air atomization in the cylinder and thus allowing a leaner mixture to be used. As the engine's speed increases, both valves are needed to supply sufficient mixture. A sliding pin, which is pressured by oil, as in the regular VTEC, is used to connect both valves together and allows the full opening of the second valve. The HX model was offered with the 5-speed manual or a CVT Continuously Variable Transmission which offered three driving ranges, D (for normal driving), S (for spirited driving with higher engine speeds), and L (to keep the engine running as high a speed as possible). The conventional 4-speed automatic was not available on the HX model.

--> most come with a sunroof, power doorlocks, windows, and keyless entry. they have a guage cluster that looks like the EX, and it has a tachometer, I also understand that it has a little light that comes on when you need to shift if you've got a manual. supposedly this is to help you maintain the most effective fuel efficiency. also, every one I've ever seen has come with those alloy wheels. I figure they must have been standard.

feel free to add or correct me on any of this.
