Interference engine

Can anyone tell me if the Civic's DOHC or SOHC 1.6 are interference engines? What about the SOHC and DOHC 1.7s? Thanks

RE: Interference engine

When I took my car into the garage to have it inspected I asked the mechanic if it was Interference, and he said nearly all imports are.

But I too am interested in more information.

Also, if you don't know for sure when the timing belt was last changed, assuming it IS interference, should you just go ahead and have it changed... just in case?

Do Honda engines use a timing belt or timing chain? I am kinda wary about the whole timing belt snapping and destroying your engine thing..

u got a belt --they are good for about 60,000 miles ----if your gonna change it u might want to do the water pump too --if u dont & it leaks say a few months down the road you gotta pay all over agian ---cause the timing belt runs the pump

I changed mine at 100k.
Changed the waterpump at the same time.
Took me about an hour or two.

If the water pump goes bad does the timing belt go bad? My current car is a Dodge Neon, so I am scared as hell about buying a new car that has an interference engine.. Are these cars really as reliblae as everyone says they are?

180k isn't that a little like playing Russian Roulette with your car? Especially since its such a relatively cheap repair? Not trying to be judgemental, just curious.

And is it real hard to change the timing belt? I would like to put another one on just for piece of mind, but the repair guide made it look quite daunting...
