The ECT is a crucial sensor that tells the ECU what temperature the engine is. This is essential for the engine to run optimally. In a practical sense, you may see reduced gas mileage (engine will run rich) and possibly idle problems if this sensor is not working.
The ECT has two wires and is located beneath the distributor. It resides immediately next to the coolant temperature sending unit, which has only one wire. When installing the new ECT, be sure to coat the threads with high temperature liquid gasket.
