Launch RPM

What do you think is an ideal launch RPM for a D16Z6 with I/H/E?

I'm getting a phearable chip and I think I want to do the 2 step launch.
For the 2 step launch to work all they have to do is program it in the chip right?

To engage the 2 step, all i'd have to do is hold in the clutch and push the gas all the way and it will rev limit at that programmed 2-step RPM, right?
And then when I let out the clutch the 2 step rev limit will go away?

Im not sure how it works, but the clips ive seen dont look like it treats the engine the right way

it's just a rev limiter in a safe RPM though, i don't see how it could hurt the engine

it seems that the ones i've seen with 2-step controllers are the ones that backfire and the ones with it in the EPROM are the ones that do it differently. On the controller it holds it at the rpm, but on the ones with it in the chipped ECU it bounces around at the set RPM.

i don't think it's suppose to backfire like you see in some cars. the one's i've seen backfire are the ones with the controller instead of it programmed in the ECU. If it's safe i'd really like to use it though, makes it a lot easier to launch consistently

why does it backfire then?

trustdestruction 09-16-2008 08:03 PM

they don't all backfire, which is what i'm trying to figure out
i've noticed that the ones with the 2-step programmed in the ecu bounce around the RPM while the controllers hold it at one place constantly... i think that may have something do with the backfiring, not sure. maybe if it's running too rich too, idk

anyway, regardless of the 2-step, around what RPM would you recommend launching at?

cyberx32 09-16-2008 08:52 PM

I think around 3k then feather the clutch

alright, thanks

lol

The reason you see all these cars with 2 steps / launch control backfiring, is usually because the cars are boosted. The true application for the system is to ensure that you can build/stay in boost at all times. Therefore, when they build a ****load of boost while waiting to launch, its blasting the unburned fuel out the tailpipe. It wears out turbos pretty fast, and is really only useful in race applications.

I would not even bother putting it on your stock Civic. It will only do more harm than good.

alright, thanks

I am getting a phearable chip and i wasn't sure if I wanted them to set the 2-step or not. Thanks for saving me from potential engine trouble.

What RPM do you recommend launching at though (not with 2-step)?
