come on guys... he's 16 and new to cars. We all gotta start somewhere... not everybody is born with a vast wealth of automotive systems. I remember when I thought mufflers alone added horses (I also remember when I believed power gains given through "dyno" results in advertisements lol).

Anyway, 96, I'll give you the best example of why i/h/e makes power that I was given. It really helped me understand it anyway. Think of an engine as a giant air pump. Power is made by mixing air and fuel; the more air you can get through the engine fast, the more fuel the computer can add, and consequently the more power you can make. That's why an exhaust system helps a little bit; it helps the air get out of the engine faster. But without an aftermarket exhaust manifold (header), the exhaust is still restricted. That's why people upgrade their intakes, header, and exhaust. That way, you bring slightly more air into the engine, and you let the exhaust out faster. If you want to go even more in-depth, putting on a bigger throttle body, aftermarket intake manifold, and a nice big cam will help the engine breath further.

 

Clean out your air filter box, bet the sound goes away.
