to be safe, especially since you heard cracking, i'd get hood pins... i've heard horror stories of the hood latch strikers on the hoods snapping off and the hood flinging up and into the windshield.

they make some really clean looking hood pins... aerocatch i think they're called

 

It came with free hood pins, i dont have the know how or the tools to make the hole's. Its the hood that makes cracking sounds not the hood latch or around it.

Better way of putting it, using the force to remove wax it will make crack sound. Maby the hood is just bracking its self in?
