Default OBD II Scanner

Has anyone tried using a hand-held OBD scanner while the car is running - I want to check the readiness of the monitors for state inspections

Thanks

I'm surprised that an OBD-II scanner can be used with the engine running. When I plug mine in, I get the message to make sure the key is turned to "ON" but the engine is "OFF". Guess I'll have to check with the ACTRON Co. to see if there are other tests I can do with the engine running.
